According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (July 21, 2008):

Salmonella Saintpaul has been detected in samples of fresh jalapenos. It is the first time the strain responsible for the nationwide outbreak of salmonellosis has been detected in a food since the outbreak began but does not mean jalapenos are to blame for all the illnesses. See DSHS News Release.

DSHS has confirmed 475 cases of people infected with Salmonella Saintpaul in Texas since mid-April. The latest illness onset date among the Texas cases is June 24. Counties with confirmed cases are: Angelina (3), Aransas (2), Austin (2), Bastrop, Bee, Bell (7), Bexar (15), Bosque, Bowie (2), Brazoria (2), Brazos (3), Brown, Caldwell (5), Cameron (2), Clay, Coke (2), Coleman, Collin (4), Comanche, Crane (2), Dallas (16), Denton (5), Duval, Eastland (3), Ector, El Paso (2), Ellis (5), Erath, Fort Bend (10), Galveston (4), Hale, Hardin, Harris (73), Hays (10), Hidalgo (3), Hood (2), Howard (2), Hutchinson (2), Jack, Jefferson (3), Jim Wells (2), Johnson (3), Jones, Kaufman, Kendall, Kleberg, Lamar, Lubbock (5), McLennan (5), Montgomery (3), Nacogdoches, Nueces (28), Orange (2), Palo Pinto (11), Parker (7), Randall, Refugio, San Patricio (8), Smith (2), Swisher (2), Tarrant (34), Taylor (22), Terry, Tom Green (10), Travis (35), Victoria (5), Webb, Wharton, Wichita (30), Williamson (9), and Young.
