Cerebral Contusion
Cerebral contusions are bruises to the brain. With a head injury, there are often two areas with contusions, the area where the head was directly impacted (the coup injury) and the area where the brain bounced against the skull (the contrecoup injury). When the brain bounces against the skull, there is twisting and/or tearing of blood vessels and other brain matter. Contrecoup injuries usually result in edema (swelling). If the bleeding is extensive the contusion will lead to hematoma (a collection of blood). Both edema and hematoma can lead to permanent brain damage or death.
The frontal and temporal lobes of the brain are where contrecoup contusions most often occur, which explains why people who have had contusions often have problems with reason, attention span, emotions and memory. If you have a family member who has had head trauma, you know that personality changes and other issues can be devastating for families. For this reason, in a case involving head trauma, damages can often be sought for both the victim and his or her family.

Brain Injuries and Motor Vehicle Accidents
One of the major causes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is motor vehicle accidents. Even a "minor" accident may result in brain injuries. We guide our clients through the process of determining the extent of the brain injuries, and we work to obtain just compensation for those injuries and the related pain and suffering.
Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries Related to Electrical Accidents
Another major cause of brain injuries is electrical accidents. Brain injuries from electrical accidents can occur as a direct result of an electric shock, from a fall after an electric shock, or from cerebral anoxia due to related respiratory problems.
